Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 28, 2025
AfterClass (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the AfterClass platform, a career mentorship service that connects students with industry professionals. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to that information.
By using AfterClass, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information we collect
Account information. When you register, we collect your name, email address, school or institution, and program of study (for students), or your professional background and areas of expertise (for industry professionals).
Profile information. You may optionally provide a profile headline, a short bio, career interests, and other details that help us match students with relevant professionals.
Q&A activity. We collect questions you post, answers you submit, and votes or flags you make within the platform.
Google Calendar data. If you choose to connect your Google Calendar, we access your calendar solely to create meeting events on your behalf when a mentorship meeting is confirmed. We store an encrypted access token to perform this action. We do not read your existing calendar events, contacts, or any other Google account data.
Usage data. We automatically collect information about how you use the platform, including pages visited, features used, and login timestamps. This data is used to improve the platform and calculate engagement metrics such as Industry Cred scores.
2. How we use your information
- To operate and provide the AfterClass platform
- To match students with relevant industry professionals
- To schedule mentorship meetings and generate Google Meet links
- To calculate and display Industry Cred scores
- To send notifications about platform activity (meeting offers, confirmations, Q&A responses)
- To improve and develop new features
- To communicate important updates about the service
3. How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Industry professionals are anonymous to students until a meeting is confirmed. Before confirmation, students see only a professional’s industry, years of experience, and areas of expertise — never their name, employer, or contact details.
We share data with the following third-party services to operate the platform:
- Supabase — database and authentication infrastructure
- Vercel — hosting and deployment
- Google — calendar event creation and video meetings (Google Meet), only when you connect your Google account
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
4. Data storage and security
Your data is stored on servers provided by Supabase. Google OAuth tokens are encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption before being stored in our database.
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Data retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
6. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Disconnect your Google Calendar at any time through your account settings
- Withdraw consent for optional data uses
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below.
7. Cookies
We use essential cookies to maintain your session and keep you logged in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
8. Children’s privacy
AfterClass is intended for post-secondary students and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes by email or through a notice on the platform. The “last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
10. Governing law
This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
